Abstract:
The Philippines is a Third World country where poverty is prevalent. Also,
mental health is one aspect of man that Filipinos often take for granted. But what is the
relation of mental health to poverty?
This paper, The Relation of Mental Health to Poverty — A Case Study of the
National Center for Mental Health, focuses on the pervasiveness of poverty in the
premier mental institution in the country. Seemingly, the poor is unable to cure their
mentally ill in the same way that the rich can. However, if the number of mental disorder
cases increases, the NCMIH may not be able to provide its services effectively.
There is a need to promote mental health in the country and the government plays
a vital role in doing so. The facts presented here shall create greater awareness to this
matter and shall enhance contemplations of having a sound and healthy mental wellbeing.
