dc.description.abstract Biotechnology allows powerful companies to control food production, often to the disadvantage of local populations. The testing of Bt corn in the Philippines is a highly scientific issue. Moreover, it is importantly a socio-cultural, political, moral, and ethical issue. The study laid down the arguments for and against genetic engineering and genetically modified organisms in the Philippine agriculture. In this descriptive study, data where garnered from journals, papers delivered in conventions, NGO’s circulations, symposia, as well as books. Interviews of doctors, concerned citizens, and the academe concerned with the topic were also used for validation. A case in point would be the issue regarding Bt corn in the Philippines, preliminary data as well as backgrounds came from circulations and papers as well. Results of the descriptive study shows that the foreseen negative impact of GMOs in Philippine agriculture outweighs the possible gains of GMOs in food production. en_US
