Abstract:
With the economic crisis that the whole world faces today, people try to look for ways to improve the quality of their life. In the Philippines, massive layoffs from different labor sector and industries became rampant. Due to these, people seek for jobs that are in demand despite of the emerging crisis. Career in nursing fits this description. More so, nursing provides a promising career and remuneration in the international market. The large demand for nurses from countries in different parts of the world attracts many people to take nursing. This results to massive enrollment for the course and in turn massive migration of nurses to other countries. This phenomenon created significant impacts on the country’s health sector. This study identifies the factors which cause the phenomenon of massive nurse migration in the country using the case of the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center. It also pinpoints the effects of the out migration of nurses on the working conditions of nurses left in the public hospitals and how it also affects the quality of service that the patients received. At the end of the study, the researcher recommends ways to address the problem faced by the health sector due to nurse migration. More so, the researcher also provides strategies for retention of nurses.
