Abstract:
This study aims to determine the consequences of intense military operations in Mindanao, particularly in Lumad communities, in the plight of the Lumad children to the right to education. Moreover, it analyzes the underlying reasons of the military attacks on Lumad community schools in particular, and the different human rights violations against the teachers, students, and community members. In order to achieve the objectives set in this study, the researcher used qualitative techniques of data gathering. In particular, it looked in the experiences of the teachers of Lumad community schools in relation to the military operations in their areas. The researcher conducted informant interview of the research target and experts to gather primary data for this study; books, journal articles, and news clippings were used as secondary resources. After gathering the data needed, secondary analysis and coding for themes have been applied. Based on the literature and data findings, the researcher found out that the intense military operations in communities, and military attacks on schools are due to interlinking reasons. As a result of these attacks, the education of the children suffered gravely. Hence, at the end of this study, the researcher has given several recommendations on how the government should address this issue in Lumad communities.
