Abstract:
An ethnobotanical survey was conducted among 47 households in Sitios Alasasin, Bito, Irid, Madilay-dilay, Manggahan, and Parang na Balete in Barangay Daraitan, municipality of Tanay, province of Rizal, Philippines. A total of eight use-categories were identified and 103 species of plants belonging to 49 families were recorded. Data were analyzed using Use Value (UV), Family Use Value (FUV), Informant Consensus Factor (ICF), and Fidelity Level (FL). Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott (Araceae) or Taro has the highest overall UV and is considered to be an important cash crop and food staple. Residents were found to have the highest degree of agreement with regards to medicinal plants and a lack of agreement with regards to plants used as stimulants and those with ecological significance. They also prefer to utilize fruits and leaves, mainly for food and medicine. For medicinal plants, the most preferred mode of preparation is boiling and administration is oral.
