dc.description.abstract There is a growing interest in the field of alternative medicine regarding mushrooms as they have natural chemicals that exhibit antibacterial and antioxidant properties.. It is the aim of this study to determine the presence of antibacterial and antioxidant activities of ethanolic extracts of the Philippine variants of Daedalea sp., Daedaleopsis sp., Fomes sp., Ganoderma applanatum, Ganoderma lucidum, Hydnum sp., Lenzites elegans, Microporus xanthopus, Phellinus sp. and Polyporus sp.. The study used Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion assay and broth microdilution method for the screening of antibacterial activity and DPPH scavenging assay for determination of antioxidant activity. The disk diffusion assay showed little to no diameters of zone of inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. However, MIC50 values for Daedaleopsis sp., Daedalea sp., Fomes sp., G. applanatum, G. lucidum, L. elegans, M. xanthopus, and Polyporus sp. showed inhibition activities ranging from 20µg/mL to 10000µg/mL against K. pneumoniae and 1250µg/mL to 10000µg/mL against S. aureus. All ten mushroom ethanolic extracts exhibited DPPH scavenging where the antioxidant activities of Fomes sp., Phellinus sp., M. xanthopus, G. lucidum, Hydnum sp. and G. applanatum were comparable with the standard. The collected mushroom species may have the potential to be used as antimicrobial and antioxidant agents. en_US
