Title: A Case Study on the Motivation for Using Acceler8
Authors: Abad, Angellie Nikka S.
Keywords: Motivation in education
Coworking spaces
Issue Date: May-2017
Abstract: Coworking spaces, which are perceived to support new employment trends (e.g. freelance, startups, entrepreneurship), have emerged in the Philippines. This study explores why professionals access a coworking space, which is a developing concept in the country. Data used in this qualitative study were derived from semi-structured interviews of the manager and users of Acceler8, who were selected through purposive-convenience sampling. The case study determined a description of a coworking space, using Bouncken and Reuschl’s Six Dimensions of Coworking (2016) and the recurrent themes from informants’ statements. It was found that the need for available office space, convenience of a plug-and-play system, and sense of community were the primary motivations to use a coworking space. It was concluded that the motives were contingent on the needs and professional background of the user.
