Abstract: The Manila Metropolitan Theater is one of the most well-preserved art deco structures in the country that was intended to become a venue for stage presentations and was once considered as the premier cultural center of Manila. Despite its deteriorating state, the account of historical events and its outstanding art deco elements reflect the aesthetic, historical and cultural value of the theater. This study documented the influences on the architectural design of the Metropolitan Theater, and the events, performances and exhibits that have taken place in the theater. Furthermore, it provided a thorough documentation of the artistic significance of the Metropolitan Theater. Research, archival documentation and review of related literature were conducted. The study showed that factors such as geographical, political, cultural, socio-economic and technological can prove the cultural significance of Metropolitan Theater and such factors were behind the changes of value of the theater throughout the years. This study hopes to enrich the knowledge of the readers of the historical, artistic and cultural significance of the theater. Hopefully, this study will help on the allocation of support from the government to help restore and preserve the grandeur of Metropolitan Theater.
