Abstract:
The research focuses on the employee's perception towards the impact of team
communication climate on their team's effectiveness. This study aims to determine the
nature of the team under study and its advantages, the perceptions of the team members
on their communication climate, and the perceptions of the members on their team's
effectiveness.
The research seeks to contribute a better understanding of how a team's climate
can affect its effectiveness. It aims to determine the type of climate that can help the team
improve its performance. It also serves as a diagnostic tool upon which teams can gauge
their communication climate and effectiveness. The research however limits its scope
with perceptions of the employees toward the relationship of team climate and
effectiveness. The finding of this study is also confined to the nature and unique
situations governing the team under study.
The researcher conducted the study in the Merchandising Department of the
Associated Broadcasting Company (ABC). The department's main task is the production
of television commercials aimed at boosting viewership of programs of the broadcast
station.
The researcher used the qualitative-quantitative descriptive approach for the
study's research design. The quantitative approach served to measure the team's climate
and effectiveness while the qualitative approach probed deeper into related concepts. The researcher employed a census, as the sampling technique since the Department
is composed of only twenty-one personnel. Survey questionnaires and interview schedules
were employed as data gathering instruments.
Descriptive statistics such as frequency distribution, percentile distribution and
arithmetic mean were used for rating the team's climate and effectiveness. The Gamma
Coefficient Analysis was also used to determine the relationship between the two
variables.
In conclusion, employees perceive their team to have a high level of openness
followed by trust and empathy earning a high rating for their communication climate. The
team's level of effectiveness also earned a high rating with emphasis on the output and
knowledge and skills category. It was also found out a supportive climate does not
necessitate a relationship that is too personal or intimate. Findings also showed that the
team's climate is an important source of motivation for members to perform their task.
Using the Gamma Coefficient Analysis, computations showed that there is a
significant and direct (moderate level) relationship between team climate and team
effectiveness. This accepted the hypothesis of the study that a direct relationship exists
between the two variables.
